Subject line: Addressing Sex Trafficking at Mass & Cass

Dear [Title + Last Name],

As a Boston resident and concerned constituent, I am writing to call your attention to a deeply overlooked aspect of the crisis at Mass & Cass: the ongoing sex trafficking of women.

While public discussion rightly focuses on crime, addiction, homelessness, and public safety, Mass & Cass is also home to a thriving sex trafficking operation that preys on women experiencing severe trauma, addiction, and instability. Traffickers use coercion, drugs, and violence to maintain control, creating a cycle of exploitation that is often invisible in policy discussions.

Boston
(Human Exploitation Advocacy Team) HEAT is the only organization singularly focused on serving these women. Founded by Dr. Abigail Judge, a Harvard Medical School faculty member and MGH psychologist, and Sandra Andrade, a Peer Advocate and survivor-leader, HEAT provides trusted, relationship-based support that no other organization offers, including:
  • Specialized daytime and nighttime street outreach
  • The only secure nighttime drop-in space for trafficked women
  • Safe access to showers, laundry, food, rest, and respite
  • Trusted connections to medical care, legal support, and addiction treatment
  • Long-term relationships that foster stability, dignity, and recovery

HEAT is widely known and trusted by the women themselves and serves as the “first call” when a trafficked woman is in crisis, working closely with hospitals, courts, and law enforcement.

As you consider how public funds and policy attention are allocated to address the Mass & Cass health crisis, I respectfully ask that you learn more about the women being trafficked and consider Boston HEAT as a critical part of the solution.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent and often overlooked issue.

Sincerely,
